Milky Strawberry Tea

Milky Strawberry Tea

It was a Friday night, and Gabe was at work, but I had a craving for bubble tea, so I called up Michelle.  A few hours later, off we went.  It was pretty early when we went so it wasn’t that busy yet, nor was it excessively loud which was good.
I stuck to my usual milky strawberry tea with pearls, while Michelle stepped a little outside of her boundaries with a mango-strawberry slush, no pearls.  Great adventurers of bubble tea we are not, but we sure know what we like.

We also got the Salty Peppery Chicken Nuggets to share.  We always get these because they’re only $4.95 and you get a fair amount, plus it’s a very safe bet.  Looking around at all the other food coming out of the kitchen however, we’ll definitely be trying something new there in the future.

Does anybody have any other reccomendations for things to eat or drink at Bubble World, or any other bubble tea place?  Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

All in all, Bubble World is a good standby.  The bubble tea is familiar, the ambience is expected and the service is alright.  I’ll keep frequenting it till I find something that I like that much more.

One Month!

16Feb09

Hello all,

We just wanted to have a little post because it is the one month anniversary of Think Foodie, and we’re so happy that people are reading, and we’re just really greatful.  I hope you’re enjoying the blog and continue to read and give us your thoughts or suggestions.

Our Valentine’s dinner went very well and we got some good pictures, so the post will hopefully be up by the end of the week, but we’re both very busy so fingers crossed!

Thanks to all the readers, and we hope you’ll be back for more.

Bon Appetit

Gabriel and Tam

As many of you know Valentine’s Day is mere days away.  Flowers, presents, teddy bears what have you, this year I’m most excited for the food (that may be because I already recieved my present…).  Valentine’s is a great day for restaurants, they can have set menus at quite a high price, and are flooded with romantic diners.  Because of the large price mark ups and how many Dine Outs we went to, Gabe and I will be making our dinner at home.  A 3 course meal, so far consisting of rack of lamb and chocolate fondue.

So tell me, what are you thoughts?  What are you doing for Valentine’s?  Have you been to restaurants in the past and what did you think of them?  A good romantic meal or a rip off because of the occasion?  We’ll be taking photos as we cook, and hopefully we’ll post about our successful dinner.

I hope you enjoy the day, even if you don’t have a significant other, and perhaps keep the day sweet with chocolates or candy.

Cheers,

Tam

So I was browsing other food and local blogs this weekend when I stumbled upon this great site.  Gabe and I may love dining out, but we’re also in school and the money can be tight, and thus why I think this site is fabulous.

“Let’s go for Dinner”  is a site that allows restaurants to advertise and gets people to try them out.  How?  By allowing people to buy vouchers for that restaurant at half off.  For example, they have a $50 dinner at GOLDFISH Pacific Kitchen for $25.  There’s a few restrictions, such as you can’t use them on high volume days like Valentine’s, Mother’s Day etc, and you have to use it within 90 days, so make sure to read the fine print, but even with the restrictions, I think it’s a great deal.

Being able to try out a restaurant I wanted for less money?  That makes me feel like a smart cookie.

Check out the site, and happy dining.

Let’s go for Dinner

Got a craving for pasta?
Tuscani Pasta Box

Tuscani Pasta Box

Well, Tam and I did and thanks to the persuasive Tuscani pasta commericals by Pizza Hut, we ended up ordering the Chicken Alfredo online.

Sounds weird but its a nice break from having to get dressed up, google map where the location of the restaurant is, drive downtown, find parking…blah blah blah but i digress.

The Pasta

The Pasta

You know what, with a little bit of salt this stuff isnt bad. Chicken is kinda tough but tasty still. I would get this again the next time I have a craving for pasta and didnt want to cook. The commercials definitely make the portion size look bigger than it actually is but for $16 its not bad once in awhile.

Dine Out is over for another year, and while Gabe and I are sad to see an end to our dining extravaganza, we’re also glad to take a break from all the dining out, and especially all the money that was spent.  Here are some of our final thoughts on the event.

Cru and Seasons in the Park were out favorites, hands down.  Cru was everything that we had hoped for, and a return trip is definately happening.  They hav a regular Fixe Prix menu for $42, only $4 more than the Dine Out menu.  This is still pretty pricey, but for a special occasion it’s not bad.  Seasons was a nice surprise, as it wasn’t even on our radar until we drop a few restaurants and scanned pictures on Facebook, but we’ll be coming back there too, perhaps in the summer to see a nice sunset.

Trafalgars was wonderful, the portions were large, and all the food was great.  The only thing we didn’t like was the bread.  I didn’t even finish a piece of it, and was disappointed by that.  I’d definitely like to go back, at least to check out their sister, Sweet Obsessions bakery.

Lux at Caprice was better than expected, though granted it wasn’t gourmet food, but have a nice loungy feel, and a fun vibe.  I would recommend going a bit earlier to get better service, and to be able to hear the person you’re with.

Parkside was the only place that was a bit disappointing, and it’s hard to pinpoint why exactly.  The food was pretty good, the service was alright, but like Gabe said, he never really felt comfortable there, and neither did I.  Just not our type of place I suppose. (Parkside is now being converted to a La Buca - a less expensive dining concept because of the downturn in the economy.  The restaurant group already has one La Buca as well a Pied a Terre)

Dine out was much smaller I think this year than last, not in terms of restaurants participating, but in the number of people going.  This worked out well for Gabe and I, as we were able to get all the resos we wanted.  A lot of people have stopped going to the event because of the price increases, the sub par food served and the rushed service.  Gabe and I must have been lucky, because all of our restaurants were good in that aspect (though we did replace a few restuarants mid Dine Out).

Finally, if you didn’t get to the restaurants you wanted during Dine Out, it’s not the only chance to try them.  Many restaurants have reasonable prix fixe menus, either earlier in the evening, on certain days of the week, or all night (such as GOLDFISH Pacific Kitchen – mixed reviews, though I want to give it a try).

Care to share your Dine Out experiences?

Goodbye to Dine Out till next year.

Cheers,

Tam
